The public bus system connects all five districts of Grand Cayman. These mini-buses can be identified by numbers in a coloured circle on the front and rear, with the route number in the middle.
Buses can be boarded at the central bus depot next to the public library on Edward Street in George Town. The best way to catch a bus is to simply flag one down on the side of the road. Similarly, when you want to get off at any point, just let the driver know. If you hear the bus beeping, the driver is checking to see if you want to be picked up.
The bus is an economical way to get around Cayman. The average fare costs $2 one way. Longer trips to the outer districts, such as North Side and East End, are around $5.
Call the bus depot at 946-1323 for inquiries.

Taxis
Taxis can be flagged down on the road or called by a hotel concierge. There are many at the Owen Roberts International Airport, in front of the cruise ship terminals and near the major resorts. Rates vary according to distance and the number of passengers, so be sure to ask what the rate will be in advance – as they can be pricey. The Cayman Islands Government’s digital fare app – CI:GO – helps ensure consistent pricing by setting standard prices for routes.
Car rentals
There are several car rental agencies in Cayman, many located near the airport. There are top-brand rental companies along with several local ones. Rates are comparable to the US. Drivers must have a credit/debit card to rent a vehicle, be over the age of 21 and have a valid driver’s license.
